The first outreach of Asian Pacific Health Foundation at City Heights Farmers’ Market on 8-11-18 was a successful event. The weather was very cooperative, the flow of visitors steady. Although we had to bring our own tents, tables and chairs, the 20 x 20 ft space given was perfect for our activities. As with the health fair last week at Meridian Baptist Church, Dr. Robert Gish visited the booths, welcoming the customers and APHF students and staff. He toured the area with Binh Tran, stopping by La Maestra’s educational center in the plaza, and the East African Community and Cultural Center on Fairmount Ave, sites of future educational sessions and screenings for the United Women of East Africa Support Team members.
Tasha Ardalan, Manager of the Farmers’ Market, let us know that there is another Farmers’ Market that operates in Linda Vista on Thursday afternoons.
Dr. Kevin Modesto, chair of Sociology and Social Work at Point Loma Nazarene University visited APHF booth towards the end of the event. Dr. Kevin and his spouse Becky, Director of University Relations at Price Philanthropies, stewarded the City Heights United for Peace Group a couple of years ago to unify the diverse ethnic groups in the area.
