Asian Pacific Health Foundation returned to Nhu Lai Temple after many outreaches over the past few years, this time with a large number of staff and coordination team providing an expanded range of health services.
The 4-hour outreach from 9 :00 AM to 1:00 PM on March 8, 2020 was organized in conjunction with a religious celebration at the Temple, to serve the anticipated large attendance on the day. Due to the sizable number of healthcare professional students eager to participate, two shifts were delineated: one from 8 AM to 10:30 AM, and the second from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
At 8:45 AM, Dr. Robert Gish, Medical Director, spoke about the silent diseases to be screened. Hypertension, diabetes (HbA1c), cholesterol and lipid disorders, hepatitis B and C, and vision care, were available to the patients. Anna Lu, Project Lead of UCSD Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study and Elena Cruz, Microfinance Director at La Maestra visited the premises and spoke with Binh Tran regarding how best to recruit patients for future mental health screenings.
