On December 13, 2017, at C.A.R.E. (Community Action Resource Engagement) Community Center in National City, the event titled: Let’s be Real – Unite: A Solution Oriented Discussion on Police-Community Relations was a power-packed brainstorming meeting to address timely issues facing the community in San Diego County.

San Diego County District Attorney’s Office Leadership Coach Anne Calle organized a great program, reaching out to an audience of nearly 40 participants that includes the law enforcement agencies’ representatives and ethnic community leaders. The representatives have been attending the San Diego County Regional Leadership Institute, and would like to know about the communities around town.

Faith leaders, representatives from San Diego County District Attorney’s office, County of San Diego officials, and community leaders shared their thoughts and comments for better communication between community dwellers and law enforcement personnel.

After the presentations by Tony Ray and Chief Craig Carter of Escondido Police Department, the workshop took place at each of the 6 tables of 6-7 participants. We thank Dr. William Benson, C.O.O. at Stepping Higher, Inc., Officer Homayoun Nabizadeh of Multi-cultural Community Relations Office, Dr. Gerald Johnson, retired chaplain from Oceanside, Reverend Brown, Sean Sheppard, and Imam Taha Hassane for their excellent thoughts to engage community members for the good of all.

Representing Peter Pham of the Vietnamese Federation of San Diego was Binh Tran, in charge of the Health committee. Besides annual community events to preserve the Vietnamese culture among the new generations, important health screening activities were carried in the community to prevent hepatitis A, B and C. Upcoming is the health fair on January 7, 2018 at Cao Dai Temple, 3204 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, from 1 PM – 4 PM see flyer. The Vietnamese Federation will hold its annual Tet Festival on February 16 – 18, 2018 at Mira Mesa Park. All are invited to the events.
